MenuWhen I start coding a new wordpress theme, I usually copy default, strip it of what I don’t need, copy in my cleaned up version of the styling, and then begin coding my design. This is lame. I’m a professional! So I’ve created a theme that is imageless and colorless, ready for me to easily adapt it to my original, unique wordpress theme designs. I’m releasing it for free under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 United States License.

This one looks interesting to have a wee play with =]
I can’t create themes from scratch myself but I do like to edit them and play around with the css and this theme seems like the best starting point for this.

Hi, this looks like a great place to start hacking around with wordpress. Couple of things, is there any way to add a left sidebar to this design in addition to the right, and also make the page width 100%. I played with the css but ended with a horizontal scroll bar, no matter the res i was using. Was going to create the left bar with the same colour as my horizontal one to aid navigation.
Also the navigation bar a the top, the links appear to be almost rounded, cant see anything obvious in the css nav section to change these to plain “square” ones.
Anyway nice theme, much appriciated!

Making the page 100% and adding a left bar is a bit more complicated then can be explained in just a few lines. Makeing the page 100% is as simple as removing the width from #page in line 220. adding in a left sidebar, the easiest way is to put in a floated div before the content div with it’s set width. To cause the content to stretch with the width of the page, you’ll need to move the sidebar before the content div, then unfloat #content in line 304, remove the width, and right and left padding, and then give it a right and left margin that is equal to the left and right sidebars plus 10-20 pixels of spacing.
There are much better ways of getting a 3 column look that are better for SEO, and other purposes, so I would advise doing some searching for “3 column layouts”, so you can find the method that would work best for you.
To take off the rounded borders you see, go to line 158.

I want to give an update for this theme, but I don’t have a date on my calendar of when that will happen. However, this theme will work on the most current version of WordPress. It’s an extremely basic theme, no bells and whistles to be broken.
