I have to admit that when I first upgraded my testing blog to the 2.7 beta version, I was a little skeptical. The new interface seemed dull, and over complicated. My usual preference is a horizontal navigation, so that really through me off at first, but they have done some tweaking, designed some nice icons, and I am really enjoying it now. I have always been a sucker for falling in love with the “latest and greatest”, and after spending some time in the new admin interfacet, I can say that 2.7 won’t break your heart.
One of the things I am loving is the ability to upgrade automatically. As each new beta release and then finally the release candidates became available, I was able to hit one button, and see the blog update automatically. It still suggests that you backup your database, but I didn’t bother doing this with my test blog, and there were no problems.
One small, teeny tiny, little gripe I have is that everything under the hood is new and improved, but the default shell packaged with, is still the same old same old. Yes, there are people that use Kubrick, and I for a long time, used it as a base code for new theme development until I developed my Imageless theme. It’s not that big of a deal, since the majority of people use their own theme, but I still feel like doing a fresh install gives you a 5.0 under the hood of a Ford Pinto.
So, if you haven’t already upgraded, then don’t be scared, you’ll love the customizable admin interface and installing unlimited plugins right from the dashboard. If you need help, call me!
