Class 1 – WordPress 101: How to Install, Setup, and Use WordPress

9am – 12pm

This class is for everyone from the beginner blogger, to those that already have experience working with websites. During our three hours, we will discover how to get a self hosted WordPress blog installed, and cover every inch of every setting. We’ll also discuss some of the most essential plugins that I recommend, and how to get started with a free or premium theme.

Prerequisites: If you want to follow along in installing and setting up your own WordPress site, you will need to already have your own hosting space and bring your laptop. No programming or design skills are required.

Class 2 – Working with Themes: Coding, Customizing, and Installing WordPress Themes

1pm – 4pm

Ever wanted to change the font color or add your own custom logo to a theme? Or maybe you’d like to start developing your own themes. This class will cover everything from template heirarchy to the ins and outs of the all important WordPress loop. Learn not just how templates work, but how to add your own touches to them, and especially how to take advantage of the latest new features that were released in version 2.9.

Prerequisites: Programming experience is a must to understand the topics in this class, even if only HTML and CSS. We will go over some PHP and how to use and manipulate what is already working within WordPress. If you want to follow along, you should bring a laptop with your code editor of choice.
